Interruptus is an experimental art film which appears to be about a man who is in a relationship with a woman but who is also either having an affair with, or dreaming about being with another man.
This three minute short has no dialogue, and the visuals have been altered to look like negative film. Two takes of the same scene are overlayed on top of other another, a few seconds apart, making for an interesting and unusual effect in which the same actions and two versions of the same character move across the scene, overlapping with one another – and when two characters overlap the image momentarily becomes positive. This suggests the multi-faceted, complicated nature of a relationship, or perhaps that the characters in this story have two versions of themselves. The negative effect also implies that what lies beneath the seeming façade of reality may be different from what it seems.
This is a visually compelling piece which would be well-placed in a gallery exhibition or a film festival that caters for artist films.
